“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7

On behalf of the Coptic Orthodox Community in Mississauga, we say goodbye to a dear leader and friend to many of us, the former mayor of the City of Mississauga, Her Worship Mayor Hazel McCallion.

Madam Mayor, you will be missed dearly. Our City is forever grateful for your years of service and leadership. We will never forget your friendship with us and your deep friendship with the Late Pope Shenouda III. His fondness of your leadership and determination was shared with everyone in Egypt after his visit to Canada where he first met you and I am sure he was always praying for you. This friendship was always a source of great pride for us all, especially when you went to visit him in Egypt.

Your vision, passion, and commitment transformed the City of Mississauga from a farming town to one of the largest and most vibrant cities in Canada.

We are fortunate for having been led by you for many years and for your unwavering support and commitment to advance all communities, including the Coptic community, to bring us all together in our great city. Your support and passion encouraged our community to establish the Canadian Coptic Centre, which you proudly said was a landmark in our City.

We extend our sincerest condolences to your family and we ask the Lord to grant them peace during this difficult time.

Madam Mayor, congratulations on concluding your race with fervor and passion. You will never be forgotten. Today, Pope Shenouda will be waiting for you to welcome you and congratulate you. We will keep praying for you as you pray for us.

Goodbye, our “Eternal Mayor.”

With all of our Love and Admiration.
